USC law school official named to police panel
The City Council voted Wednesday to confirm Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s latest nominee to the Board of Police Commissioners.
Robert Saltzman, associate dean of the USC Gould School of Law, will replace Wells Fargo bank executive Shelley Freeman on the five-member commission, which serves as the civilian oversight panel for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Saltzman, who is openly gay, has spent the last two years on the city’s Ethics Commission. He told council members he would work to make the ranks of the LAPD more ethnically diverse.
