Fossett’s wife asks court to declare death

The wife of millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett, who disappeared in September after taking off in his single-engine plane from a Nevada airstrip, asked a court to declare him legally dead.
The request is a step toward resolving the legal status of the 63-year-old Fossett’s estate, which according to court papers is “vast, surpassing eight figures in liquid assets, various entities and real estate,” said attorney Michael A. LoVallo, who filed the petition in Chicago.
