The need for ID

Re “Are voter ID laws the new poll tax?” Opinion, Sept. 28

I’m curious what type of world Daniel P. Tokaji lives in, where he thinks that people with photo IDs are an elite circle or that college students normally don’t have a photo ID. Unless you always use cash, you will need a photo ID to drive, to cash a check or to use a debit or credit card. I would argue that these are activities not restricted to a small, elite circle. I don’t think checking to make sure people are who they say they are is really that onerous of a burden.
