Mullen sworn in as Joint Chiefs leader

Navy Adm. Mike Mullen was sworn in as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and pledged to make sure that the nation’s military is ready to meet the challenges of the future.

“The fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will one day end,” Mullen said at a ceremony at Ft. Myer. “We must be ready for who and what comes after.”

Mullen took over for retiring Marine Gen. Peter Pace as the senior military advisor to the president and the Defense secretary.
