From Times Wire Reports

Austrian authorities said that they arrested a second Bosnian suspect in an apparent plot to bomb the U.S. Embassy in Vienna and that the would-be bomber had contacted the embassy before the attempt.

The public prosecutor’s office said police took Mehmed D., 34, into custody in Tulln, a town about 15 miles northwest of Vienna. The first suspect was arrested Monday after a bag set off a detector at the embassy entrance, which is guarded by U.S. Marines.

The man carrying it fled, tossing the backpack holding grenades, plastic explosives and bits of metal into the street. The bag did not explode. Asim C. was arrested nearby.

The suspects’ last names were not released, in line with Austrian privacy laws. Authorities said Asim C. seemed confused and had received psychiatric care in the past.
