The wrong track on toll road

Share

Re “Take the high road,” editorial, Oct. 3

The Times’ most striking claim is that the proposed Foothill South Toll Road is a road to nowhere. Did the writer even look at a map or traffic patterns before opposing connecting State Route 241 to Interstate 5? The editorial states, “It doesn’t connect . . . Inland Empire residents and Orange County jobs.” As a regular commuter on the 241 from the Inland Empire to south Orange County, I am keenly aware of all the south county destinations while bypassing State Route 55, which is even more congested than Interstate 5. How can a reasonable person support a claim that this doesn’t connect to south county jobs?

It should be obvious that we need additional routes to connect the Inland Empire to Orange County. The 5 and 55 have been widened before without relief. The editorial makes wild claims without evidence to support its views; this is not the source of intelligent debate.
