The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan, Iraq and United Arab Emirates:

Robert T. Ayres III, 23, of Los Angeles; sergeant, Army. Ayres was killed Sept. 29 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

Mark R. Cannon, 31, of Lubbock, Texas; petty officer third class, Navy. Cannon was killed in combat Tuesday in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was a hospital corpsman assigned to the 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base in Hawaii.

Donnie D. Dixon, 37, of Miami; staff sergeant, Army. Dixon was killed Sept. 29 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baloor, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

James D. Doster, 37, of Pine Bluff, Ark.; sergeant first class, Army. Doster was killed Sept. 29 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire and an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Ciara M. Durkin, 30, of Quincy, Mass.; specialist, Army National Guard. Curkin was found shot to death Sept. 28 in a secure area at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, south of Kabul. She had a single bullet wound in the head. The Army’s Criminal Investigation Command was investigating her death. Curkin was assigned to the 726th Finance Battalion in West Newton, Mass.

Rachael L. Hugo, 24, of Madison, Wis.; specialist, Army Reserve. Hugo was killed Friday when her unit was attacked with small-arms fire and an improvised explosive device in Baiji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. She was assigned to the 303rd Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade in Jackson, Mich.

Randy L. Johnson, 34, of Washington, D.C.; sergeant first class, Army. Johnson was killed Sept. 27 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

Avealalo Milo, 23, of Hayward, Calif.; specialist, Army. Milo was killed Thursday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Vilseck, Germany.

Herman J. Murkerson Jr., 35, of Adger, Ala.; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Murkerson was killed in combat Monday in Iraq’s Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, N.C.

Randell Olguin, 24, of Ralls, Texas; sergeant, Army. Olguin was killed Sept. 30 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

Ricardo X. Rodriguez, 23, of Arecibo, Puerto Rico; sergeant, Army. Rodriguez was killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him while his unit was on foot patrol near Baiji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Shayna Ann Schnell, 19, of Tell City, Ind.; seaman apprentice, Navy. Schnell died Oct. 1 of massive brain injuries suffered Sept. 25 in an auto accident in Dubai. She was serving as a master-at-arms assigned to Naval Security Force Bahrain, Jebel Ali Detachment in United Arab Emirates.

Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, N.C.; sergeant, Army. Tellier was killed Sept. 29 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire at Firebase Wilderness in southeastern Afghanistan’s Paktika province. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Chirasak Vidhyarkorn, 32, of Queens, N.Y.; sergeant, Army. Vidhyarkorn died of noncombat- related injuries Sept. 29 in Diwaniya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 142nd Field Artillery Regiment at Camp Shelby, Miss.
