Joel Pett is the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist of the Lexington Herald-Leader. His work also appears in USA Today.

When a self-destructive pop diva is dominating the submissive, self-serving popular media, there’s only one thing for a self-respecting cartoonist to do -- submit work that exploits the situation! Does this make us a coalition-of-the-willing in the war on media-ocrity? Not necessarily. We did some pretty good bad-girl cartoons. It’s all in the execution. Clay Jones used the sex-symbol party animal to abuse both parties’ symbols in Washington. Gary Varvel took it further afield, searching for commentary context on the other side of the globe. And Jack Ohman traveled back in time and out to the heavens to launch his attack on 24-7 infotainment. Effective use of black space, I’d say.
