Dear Readers,

With this issue, we bring back a familiar and respected name for the publication you now hold in your hands: the Los Angeles Times Magazine.

The name change reflects who we are and where we’re taking the magazine as part of a yearlong evolution.

You may already have noticed some of the changes. For one thing, we’re now a monthly magazine, and as such we’re able to offer a richer and more substantial report on the people, places, objects and ideas that matter in a changing Southern California.

We’ve launched new columns focused on the art and craft of living here--Watch This Space by architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne and The Status Report by novelist and social commentator Meghan Daum. Entertainment writer Nicole LaPorte is now bringing her keen eye and knowing wit to The Rules of Hollywood in each issue. We’re also covering fashion, home and food every month, along with an array of fine feature writing and great photography. Also continuing in every issue: 800 Words by Pulitzer Prize winner Dan Neil and Merl Reagle’s popular crossword puzzle.

In addition, the magazine has an expanded presence online. Go to latimes.com/magazine each week for a new online version of the crossword, as well as live chats, photo galleries and other Web-only content.

We hope you’ll enjoy this month’s Home Design issue, devoted to the Baja beach house boom, and will stay tuned for more new features in the months ahead.
