A SCATTERED LIFE

The last time I saw Glenn Frey onstage he pointed out that L.A. has the richest people in the world who don’t expect to pay for tickets. Wait until he sees the band’s guest list for tonight as the Eagles and Dixie Chicks open the Nokia Theatre. . . . Everyone in town wants to see the place. After an early tour, I can tell you the sightlines are amazing -- but are those fancy lights in the bathrooms supposed to look like rolls of toilet paper? . . . If you’re going, park near Figueroa and 9th so you can drop by the Figueroa Hotel ([213] 627-8971) for a tequila sunrise at the gorgeous Moroccan bar. . . . Sunday I’ll continue my search for the perfect NFL breakfast. I tried E.J. Malloy’s in Long Beach (4306 Atlantic Ave. and 3411 E. Broadway) and found great omelets and pancakes but the saddest fruit plate ever. Then again, who eats fruit during a Steelers game? . . . Also Sunday: Is it really a small world, after all? Charles Phoenix, the nutty maven of all things retro, will lead a Disneyland-themed tour of downtown L.A. (page 38)linking up their histories. So do you think skid row is more like a Disenchanted Tiki Room or a stinky Splash Mountain? . . . This week’s birthday: Squeaky Fromme turns 59 on Monday. Squeaky fact: The Santa Monica native sang on “The Lawrence Welk Show” as a kid. To mark the day, see the Jesus and Mary Chain on Monday at Anaheim’s House of Blues ([714] 778-2583) and sing along to “Blues From a Gun.”
