From Times Wire Reports

Tropical Storm Gabrielle washed ashore and crawled slowly along the Outer Banks, but it caused few problems and failed even to chase vacationers away from the beach.

Gabrielle, which forecasters expected to head back out to sea, brought gusty 50-mph winds that churned up the surf, delighting surfers and kiteboarders. Officials said the storm probably would be remembered mostly as an inconvenience.
