A couch as comfy as old jeans

Share

English tailoring meets California cool in Suzan Fellman’s blue-jeans rendition of the timeless Chesterfield sofa. “I love the shape, but you always see it in leather in a library or office,” the designer says. “I wanted to do one with a rock ‘n’ roll spin.” Fellman uses indigo-washed denim to create the roll-armed, button-tufted couch. Unlike traditional models, which usually have exposed, turned feet, Fellman’s Chesterfield sports fully upholstered square legs with brass nailhead trim that imitates the rivets commonly found on jeans. The 6 1/2 -foot couch takes six weeks to make and is $7,500; larger sizes are available at $500 per additional foot. 678 S. Cloverdale Ave., Los Angeles; (323) 936-7759; www.suzanfellman.com.
