Post-fire, her spirit comes through

Share

Thank you for the wonderful story of Laurie Frank’s stunning home and her dedication to its resurrection [“A Spirit Rekindled,” Sept. 20]. Although I grew up in Los Angeles, I attended college in the Midwest and stayed there for close to three decades. When I saw the photos of Frank’s art-filled salon, I felt as though someone had reached inside me and pulled out my version of heaven. As I read the article, I imagined being a guest at one of her fabulous parties, gazing at the Hollywood Hills from the dining room. In January, my family and I finally settled back home here. And even if I’m never able to live in a home as lovely as Frank’s, I will have the photographs and the story to keep me company.

Everyone agrees we all have our own styles and our preferences evolve and mature over a lifetime.

That still doesn’t explain why Laurie Frank, rebuilding from scratch and with obvious resources, could possibly end up with that junked-up kitchen full of dust catchers and inconveniences when there was an opportunity for excellence and beauty.

Thank you for your coverage on rebuilding Laurie Frank’s home.

Your sensitivity in your concluding paragraph captured the psychological recovery that fire victims strive to attain.

Your article is really about the increased resilience of Frank’s creativity and friendships, and how the fire stimulated further growth. Nice job.
