U.S. restricts troops after homicide
The U.S. Navy imposed limits on travel and alcohol consumption by personnel at its base near Tokyo after the killing of a Japanese taxi driver.
The announcement came hours after Japanese authorities questioned a U.S. sailor over a suspected role in the driver’s death.
Masaaki Takahashi, 61, was killed last month in Yokosuka, home to the U.S. base, a spokesman said.
The sailor, who was not identified, has been in U.S. custody since Navy authorities apprehended him on a desertion charge last month in Tokyo.
In other cases, U.S. troops face rape and drunken driving charges.
