The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Jesse A. Ault, 28, of Dublin, Va.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Ault died Wednesday in Baghdad of injuries suffered when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Tunnis, south of the capital. He was assigned to the 429th Brigade Support Battalion in Roanoke, Va.

Ulises Burgos-Cruz, 29, of Puerto Rico; captain, Army. Burgos-Cruz was one of two soldiers killed April 6 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Anthony L. Capra, 31, of Hanford, Calif.; technical sergeant, Air Force. Capra was killed Wednesday in the explosion of a roadside bomb near Golden Hills, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to Detachment 63, 688 Armament Systems Squadron in Indian Head, Md.

Jacob J. Fairbanks, 22, of St. Paul, Minn.; specialist, Army. Fairbanks died of noncombat-related injuries Wednesday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Jeffery L. Hartley, 25, of Hempstead, Texas; staff sergeant, Army. Hartley was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Kharguliah. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Jeremiah C. Hughes, 26, of Jacksonville, Fla.; specialist, Army. Hughes died Wednesday in Balad of injuries suffered in a noncombat-related incident in Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker), 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Jason C. Kazarick, 30, of Oakmont, Pa.; specialist, Army. Kazarick was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their unit was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade in the Sadr City area of northeastern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

Michael T. Lilly, 23, of Boise, Idaho; sergeant, Army. Lilly was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their unit was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade in the Sadr City area of northeastern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

Jeremiah E. McNeal, 23, of Norfolk, Va.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. McNeal was killed April 6 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 237th Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion, 91st Troop Command in West Point, Va.

Matthew T. Morris, 23, of Cedar Park, Texas; specialist, Army. Morris was one of two soldiers killed April 6 when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Shane D. Penley, 19, of Sauk Village, Ill.; private first class, Army. Penley was killed by a sniper April 6 while on guard duty at Patrol Base Copper, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Emanuel Pickett, 34, of Teachey, N.C.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Pickett was killed April 6 when his unit was attacked with indirect fire --a military term that usually refers to a mortar or rocket attack -- in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1132nd Military Police Company in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Mark E. Rosenberg, 32, of Miami Lakes, Fla.; major, Army. Rosenberg was killed Tuesday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Stephen K. Scott, 54, of New Market, Ala.; colonel, Army. Scott was one of two soldiers killed April 6 in a rocket attack on Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, where they were working out at the U.S. Embassy’s military fitness center. He was assigned to the 356th Quartermaster Battalion in Laurel, Miss.

Timothy M. Smith, 25, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; sergeant, Army. Smith was killed Monday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Polk, La.

Shaun P. Tousha, 30, of Hull, Texas; sergeant, Army. Tousha was killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Richard A. Vaughn, 22, of San Diego; sergeant, Army. Vaughn was killed Monday when his unit was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade, an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Stuart A. Wolfer, 36, of Coral Springs, Fla.; major, Army Reserve. Wolfer was one of two soldiers killed April 6 in a rocket attack on Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, where they were working out at the U.S. Embassy’s military fitness center. He was assigned to the 11th Battalion, 104th Division in Boise, Idaho.
