City reopens its homeless camp
Homeless people are being allowed to return to what Ontario city officials say is a safer, more sanitary “tent city.”
Brent Schultz, Ontario’s housing director, said 32 people moved in to the renovated site near Ontario International Airport Tuesday and dozens more will move in over the next several days.
Hundreds were evicted last month and moved to a nearby alternative site while city officials graded the land, installed a gate and portable toilets.
Some homeless activists however, aren’t happy with the new situation. They say the city is forcing occupants to give up their pets and are upset about a 10 p.m. curfew.
Schultz said says pets aren’t allowed because of health and safety issues.
