Intel widens lead in chip market

Intel Corp. increased its dominance in the personal-computer processor market last quarter after Advanced Micro Devices Inc. fell behind in updating products.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel accounted for 78.5% of units shipped, a gain of 2.2 percentage points from the previous three months, according to Mercury Research. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Advanced Micro’s share slid to 20.6%.
