Broadcom Corp. of Irvine said a U.S. trade judge found that rival Sirf Technology Holdings Inc. of San Jose infringed six of its patents for chips used in global positioning systems.

Broadcom’s Global Locate unit filed the complaint last year, seeking a ban on imports of Sirf’s chips and any GPS products or services that use them. U.S. International Trade Commission Judge Carl Charneski’s findings are subject to review by the full commission.
