France, dormez-vous?
Re “France’s summer SigAlert,” Column One, Aug. 6
I very much enjoyed this article. During my two-week vacation in Paris last August, I found myself turning to strangers from Germany, Belgium and Holland and asking, “How can a whole city shut down for an entire month?”
Too bad some didn’t choose to stay home and keep their shops open. There certainly were enough people wandering aimlessly, searching for restaurants, groceries and everything else manned by the few who were not stuck in traffic on the highway.
