Support for Delaware senator

Re “It’s not musical chairs,” editorial, Dec. 10

I read with interest your editorial, which stated that “only qualified candidates should be considered” when filling vacant seats in the U.S. Senate.

Ted Kaufman was chosen by Delaware’s governor and will be a productive member of the Senate who will continue Joe Biden’s legacy of getting things done for his constituents in Delaware and all across the nation.

I have been privileged to know and work closely with Ted for a quarter-century, and I can confidently say that he is qualified to fill this seat. He has the wisdom, judgment and compassion to serve in the world’s greatest deliberative body. As a member of Sen. Biden’s staff for more than 20 years, 19 as chief of staff, Ted knows Delaware and Washington better than almost anyone I know. Moreover, having worked with Biden for so long means that Ted will need precious little on-the-job training.

In his new role, Sen. Kaufman will be a capable and dedicated servant for the people of Delaware, as he has been in so many roles in the past, and I wholeheartedly look forward to working closely with him in the months and years ahead.

Sen. Thomas R. Carper

(D-Del.)
