‘Gypsy’ to close 2 months early
Broadway’s “Gypsy” is taking it off sooner than expected.
The Patti LuPone revival of the musical about stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her indomitable mother, Rose, will close nearly two months early.
“Though we originally announced that ‘Gypsy’ would play its final performance on March 1, 2009, due to these uncertain financial times, my partners and I have made the difficult decision to close instead on Jan. 11,” producer Roger Berlind said in a statement.
LuPone won a Tony Award for her performance, as did her two costars, Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti.
