From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Seven young men who murdered 19 people in a series of hate crimes were sentenced to prison by a Moscow court.

Prosecutors charged that the group preyed on Central Asians, Caucasians and other non-Slavs, attacking them with hammers and other weapons. The group videotaped many of the attacks and posted clips online. The group’s two leaders were minors at the time and got the maximum possible sentence of 10 years.

Fears of an explosion of violent racism were heightened this month with the gruesome beheading of a Tajik migrant worker near Moscow.
