Hamas speaks of restoring truce
The Gaza Strip’s Hamas rulers ordered militants to hold fire for 24 hours and said a truce with Israel could be restored. But rockets continued to fall.
Smaller factions that also attack Israel, including Islamic Jihad, said they received no order to cease fire, and one Hamas official, Ayman Taha, threatened a renewal of suicide bombings in Israel.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 10 television, Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar indicated that Hamas was interested in renewing the truce. He demanded regular food and electricity supplies from Israel, along with cessation of Israeli military actions in the West Bank and Gaza.
