Where’s their present?

Most Angels fans assumed that letting both the league’s best closer and the club’s all-time RBI leader go in the off-season would be part of the cost of re-signing Mark Teixeira. We were OK with that because the money would be better spent on Teixeira, who is the player we’ve needed for years. But now in addition to Francisco Rodriguez and Garret Anderson, Teixeira is gone and so is the honeymoon period with Arte Moreno as far as I’m concerned.

If money was the issue, why doesn’t Moreno just add another city name to the already ridiculous moniker he’s forced on us? I’m sure the Los Angeles/Riverside/Temecula/Long Beach Angels of Anaheim could afford Teixeira and maybe even K-Rod and G.A. Instead we are left with Kendry Morales, higher ticket prices, no closer, a dumb name and a team that might give Oakland a run in the West next season. Can we at least get another 50 cents off the beer prices?

How comical it is to read Mark Teixeira’s comments to Torii Hunter with regard to his contract negotiations with the Angels: “He really wanted to come back but needed the Angels to step up.”

Step up? A reported $160 million over eight years is not stepping up?

Good riddance. The Angels will be better off spending the $160 million somewhere else. We can only wait in anticipation for another Scott Boras client to fail to live up to his bloated contract (i.e., Beltre, Park, Zito, Gagne, Jones, etc.).

So The Times’ scribes scoff at Arte Moreno’s offer of “only” $160 million for Mark Teixeira and Frank McCourt’s mere $45 million for 36-year-old Manny?

As T.J. Simers says, “It’s Moreno’s money, and if he doesn’t want to spend what it takes to secure Teixeira, it’s his choice.” How ironic that Simers and his pal Bill Plaschke are employed by a company that is about $13 billion in debt.

Sure, I was disappointed when the Red Sox once again dispatched the Angels in the playoffs this year, but that disappointment doesn’t begin to compare to the disgust I’m feeling over Mark Teixeira signing with the Yankees.

I thought he was from Maryland. Orioles and Nationals not good enough? Eight years not long enough to make an impact? Is a couple million more dollars a year really going to make a major difference in your allegedly modest lifestyle? Glad you enjoyed your time here so much, Mark. Don’t let the door hit your Big A as you leave. “Teixeira” must be Greek for lip service.

The Angels didn’t get Mark Teixeira, but on the bright side, they still have $100 million or so to find someone else to hit singles against the Red Sox in the playoffs.

Once again, the local columnists and the jabberheads on local radio who insisted the Angels had to make a trade-deadline deal for a big bat were flat-out wrong. The Angels traded away a .300-hitting first baseman who was signed for the next several years. In exchange they borrowed a power-hitting first baseman for what amounted to 20 to 30 postseason at-bats, none of which resulted in more than a single. Now they have neither.

The Angels were going to get to the playoffs with Casey Kotchman. All they did with Mark Teixeira was make the playoffs. And now they are left with no playoff-caliber first baseman.

Dear Mr. Moreno,

Now that the court has decided that you can keep the name Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, maybe you can move the team to Dodger Stadium in 2016 so you can call your team the Los Angeles Angels. That way, you can be like the Clippers and just be known as the second baseball team in the city.
