Mexican drug lord sentenced
A Mexican drug kingpin was sentenced Monday to a 16-year federal prison term on cocaine conspiracy charges, according to U.S. federal authorities. Hector Jesus Palma Salazar, 49, a former top lieutenant in the powerful Sinaloa cartel, was extradited from Mexico last year with other cartel figures.
Palma’s prosecution was cited as an example of ongoing cooperation between U.S. and Mexico authorities. Palma served 12 years in a Mexican prison on bribery and weapons charges before his extradition.
