Utah hands over polygamist Jeffs
Utah officials handed over polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs to Arizona authorities to face sex charges stemming from the arranged marriages of two teenage girls to older relatives.
Jeffs, 52, has already been convicted in Utah in connection with one of those cases, involving a 14-year-old girl.
Deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office took custody of Jeffs. He was booked into the county jail in Kingman, where he will be kept separate from other inmates, said sheriff’s Capt. Greg Smith.
Jeffs is charged as an accomplice with four counts of incest and four counts of sexual contact with a minor in an indictment handed up last year.
