Will 2008 go down as the year of the rock musical? Considering the success of recent local productions such as “Hair” and “Evel Knievel: The Rock Opera,” it comes as no surprise that yet another rock extravaganza rolls out this week. Featuring David Bowie-inspired ‘70s-era glam rock, John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” opens Friday at the Met Theatre in Hollywood. The plot follows a young East German boy who falls in love with a U.S. soldier. Desperate to escape the Communist state, the boy opts for a sex-change operation, marries the soldier and relocates to America.
