Democrats feel the heat

Re “Obama easily captures strongest win yet in S.C.,” Jan. 27

The Times undermines Barack Obama’s victory by touting statistics that, if proper context were included, would be quite impressive -- as an example, Obama garnering one in four white votes is actually well beyond what any analyst expected and measures staggeringly well against history.

By failing to mention that Hillary Rodham Clinton did not receive a majority of any of her core constituents, including women, The Times makes its intentions clear.

Saturday’s victory by Obama was inspiring and impressive on multiple levels. I hope he continues to gain momentum, and I look forward to Times articles that bear the hallmarks of thorough research rather than those of another candidate’s press releases.

I am angry and sickened that the Clintons have decided that spreading lies about Obama is the way to win the nomination. But Obama’s resounding victory in South Carolina may prove the Clintons wrong. Let’s prove them wrong in California too.

As a woman, I find it painfully ironic that these smears are coming from our first viable female presidential candidate, because for me feminism is about the courage to become better people -- it isn’t about learning how to be Karl Rove in drag.

The Clintons’ cynical old-school tactics insult us all. They’re not about standing for something, just about winning at all costs.

News reports on the South Carolina primary indicated that 8 out of 10 blacks opted for Obama. If this isn’t a race about race, then what is it? Whatever happened to the Clintons’ popularity among blacks? Looks like all of it dissipated when blacks had to choose between a white woman and someone of their own color.

Obama’s oratorical skills don’t make him any better than Hillary Clinton. He’s just like any politician who would say anything to get elected.

His obvious irritation over criticism from the Clintons does not speak well for someone who’s seeking the presidency. I have been a longtime Democrat, but if this organized move among blacks and disunity among Democrats persists, then I will switch to a Republican come election time.

One wonders whether, after the Clinton machine makes road kill of Obama, minorities will suddenly wonder why they have allowed the Democratic Party to use and abuse them for decades.
