Women’s 100-meter hurdles qualifying round and quarterfinals -- Joanna Hayes of Los Angeles tries to repeat as Olympic champion after several years of injuries. Lolo Jones, this year’s U.S. and world indoor champion, may be the one to watch.

Men’s 110-meter hurdles qualifying and quarterfinal -- Allen Johnson, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist, is back for another try. David Oliver, the U.S. indoor champion and third at last year’s outdoor championships, is the favorite.

Men’s high jump final -- Jamie Nieto, the 2004 trials champion and fourth-place finisher at Athens, led a pack of qualifiers who have cleared 7 feet 2 1/2 inches. Former USC standout Jesse Williams is among the finalists.

Men’s 200 quarterfinals and semifinals -- Tyson Gay, the trials 100-meter champion in a spectacular but wind-aided 9.68, was the world champion last year at 100 and 200. Wallace Spearmon, edged off the U.S. team in the 100, should make it in the 200.

Women’s 200 quarterfinals and semifinals -- Allyson Felix should make the team in her specialty after missing in the 100. Muna Lee, the trials champion in the 100, is going for the sprint double. It’s a deep field that will be tough to predict.
