Re “In traffic court, confessions come easily,” July 5

Is this justice? The implication of this article is that there is something deficient about drivers who tell the truth to a judge -- but it is not clear what that deficiency might be.

I would suggest that defendants who appear in traffic court are neither stupid nor naive, nor do they have a need to confess. Is it possible that they simply want to present their case to the judge and at the same time refuse to compromise their morality by lying?

If there is any innocent misunderstanding, it could be the driver’s belief that the judge might also set aside his rigid rules and be more influenced by morality too. Something is lacking in our judicial system if a defendant must take an oath to tell the truth, but at the same time knows that the only way his case will be heard is if he lies.
