Detroit 7, at Kansas City 1: The Tigers completed a three-game sweep in which they batted .355 and outscored the Royals, 33-6. Armando Galarraga retired the first 18 batters before David DeJesus led off the seventh with a single to right.

at New York 5, Minnesota 1: The Yankees are 6-0 since the All-Star break, sweeping Oakland and the Twins, and have won 10 in a row at home. Mike Mussina (13-6) pitched eight innings and didn’t walk anyone.

at Chicago 10, Texas 8: Carlos Quentin hit two home runs, including the go-ahead, three-run shot during a five-run eighth inning. Jim Thome hit his 19th homer of the season and 526th of his career for the White Sox, who rallied after Manager Ozzie Guillen was ejected for arguing a called third strike on Nick Swisher in the seventh inning.

Boston 6, at Seattle 3 (12 innings): The Red Sox took advantage of two outfield errors to complete Boston’s first series sweep at Seattle in 15 years. Raul Ibanez and Jose Vidro homered for Seattle, but the Mariners, 25 games below .500, are expected to trade them in the next week.

at Tampa Bay 4, Oakland 3: Rays shortstop Ben Zobrist, sent to triple-A Durham after the game, hit his fifth home run in the last 16 games. James Shields (9-6) improved to 5-1 in his last six games.

Toronto 2, at Baltimore 1 (suspended, 6th inning): A thundershower stopped play, and after a delay of more than 1 1/2 hours, the game was suspended. It will resume today with two out in the top of the sixth. The teams will then play the finale of the four-game series.

at Angels, 14, Cleveland 11: Casey Kotchman, Howie Kendrick and Jeff Mathis were a combined 13 for 15 with 10 runs batted in.
