The Defense Department last week identified the following U.S. military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:
Nick A. Dewhirst, 25, of Onalaska, Wis.; first lieutenant, Army. Dewhirst died July 20 in the Qalandar district of Afghanistan’s Khost province of wounds suffered when his convoy came under attack by individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Danny P. Dupre, 28, of Lockport, La.; staff sergeant, Marine Corps. Dupre died July 15 from wounds sustained while supporting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Ivan I. Wilson, 22, of Clearlake, Calif.; private first class, Marine Corps. Wilson died Monday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
