From Times Wire Reports
Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for his role in the cut-rate sales of city land to his former mistress. James, 72, was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine but was not required to pay restitution to the city.
“I made a mistake. I’m a human being,” he said.
James’ former mistress, Tamika Riley, 39, was sentenced to 15 months and ordered to repay $27,000 for cheating on a federal housing subsidy.
