Agent protected Kennedy children
Robert Foster, 78, a former Secret Service agent charged with protecting President Kennedy’s children, died of congestive heart failure June 17 at a retirement home in Columbus, Ohio.
Foster joined the Secret Service in 1956 and guarded President Eisenhower’s children.
He guarded the Kennedy children from 1961 until 1964. He comforted Caroline Kennedy at her father’s funeral in 1963 and held John on outings to the park.
After Jacqueline Kennedy and her children moved to New York in 1964, Foster took on other Secret Service assignments. He retired from the agency in 1978.
A native of Worthington, Ohio, Foster returned to his home state and became a U.S. marshal from 1981 to 1994 and was sergeant-at-arms for the state Legislature through 2001.
