Each week, The Times has taken a look at the best of the nation’s freshman class. Our final picks for their performances during the regular season:

Michael Beasley, Kansas State

* Season stats: 26.5 ppg, 12.5 rpg.

* What he’s done lately: Had 33 points and 14 rebounds against Colorado. Against Iowa State, hampered by foul trouble, he had 15 points -- his lowest output in a Big 12 Conference game -- and nine rebounds.

* What’s ahead: Friday vs. Texas A&M; or Iowa State in Big 12 tournament.

Eric Gordon, Indiana

* Season stats: 21.5 ppg, 44.6 FG%.

* What he’s done lately: Had 26 points against Penn State but the Hoosiers stumbled in an overtime loss, with Gordon shooting four for 16 from three-point range. He had 20 points against Minnesota.

* What’s ahead: Friday vs. Minnesota or Northwestern in Big Ten tournament.

Kevin Love, UCLA

* Season stats: 17.4 ppg, 10.9 rpg.

* What he’s done lately: In what might have been his final performances at Pauley Pavilion, had 17 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime victory over Stanford and 22 points -- including a crucial late three-pointer -- against California.

* What’s ahead: Thursday vs. Washington or California in Pacific 10 tournament.

O.J. Mayo, USC

* Season stats: 20.9 ppg, 3.1 apg.

* What he’s done lately: Had 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists in an overtime victory over California, and 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a win over Stanford. Since his four-point, 10-turnover game against UCLA, he has averaged 26.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 turnovers.

* What’s ahead: Thursday vs. Arizona State in Pac-10 tournament.

Jerryd Bayless, Arizona

* Season stats: 20.3 ppg, 4.2 apg.

* What he’s done lately: Had 19 points in a loss to Oregon that left the Wildcats on the NCAA tournament bubble with an 8-10 conference record. He had 20 points in a blowout over Oregon State.

* What’s ahead: Wednesday vs. Oregon State in Pac-10 tournament.
