Ireland is full of surprises

Regarding “Roads Paved in Myth, Magic” [March 16]: Driving on the left side on a narrow road can be a bit disconcerting, but it need not be the trauma that Rosemary McClure suggested. It can be a surprise to find that the gear-shift lever, the turn signals etc. are on the opposite side of the steering column. McClure’s suggestion that it is worthwhile to rent an automatic transmission is valid for that reason. Keep to your side of the road and allow the other car the space to which it is entitled and there should be no problem.
