In a week when four of the five major networks had double-digit percentage decreases in viewership from a year ago, CBS’ continued strength in scripted programming gave it a second consecutive victory in the weekly prime-time ratings race, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

With six of the nine most-watched scripted programs, CBS averaged 9.99 million viewers for its 22 hours of prime-time programming from April 28 through Sunday, its first back-to-back weekly victories since winning four consecutive weeks Dec. 3-30. “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” was the most-watched scripted program, finishing fourth overall with 18.01 million viewers.

Fox, which had the usual 1-2 finish from “American Idol,” was second, averaging 9.42 million for its 15 hours of prime-time programming. Fox also benefited from the first post-writers strike episode of the medical drama “House,” which was ninth with 14.64 million viewers, Fox’s largest non-sports audience in the Monday 9-10 p.m. time slot since a Jan. 15, 2007, episode of “24” and a record 11.94 million for the cooking competition series “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Fox finished first for the 17th consecutive week among viewers ages 18 to 49, the group it, ABC and NBC target and advertisers covet. The streak is the longest during the official broadcast season in Fox’s history and the longest streak among any network since NBC’s 27-week streak during the 1995-96 season.

ABC was third overall with 9.17 million viewers, its most in six weeks, outside of Oscar week. NBC was fourth with 6.46 million, followed by the CW with 2.56 million.

ABC and NBC both air 22 hours of prime-time programming a week, and the CW airs 13 hours.
