You know, back during the recall election, there was a candidate who ran a bunch of commercials that said he would “open the books. Audit everything. Then we stop the crazy deficit spending.” Whatever happened to that guy?

Here’s another option for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sales tax or lottery borrowing referendum: bring back the full vehicle license fee, like Gray Davis wanted to do in 2002. Let’s see, $4 billion times six years would have been .. .

The governor wants to close the deficit by borrowing against the lottery -- the stupid tax -- or increasing the sales tax. Either way, the budget is balanced on the backs of those who can least afford it. Why am I not surprised?
