Joachim Trier’s ode to being young, artistic, pretentious, “Reprise” is the story of two friends, both aspiring novelists, whose lives take off in unexpected directions after they mail their manuscripts to publishers on the same day, from the same mailbox. What Phillip (Anders Danielsen Lie) and Erik (Espen Klouman-Hoiner) imagine their lives will be like -- a projected future Trier and co-writer Eskil Vogt whimsically render in a frenzied, narrated fast-forward -- turns out to have little bearing on the disappointments and humiliations they endure along with their modest successes. An iconic portrait of youth at its best, worst and most heartbreaking.
