As the going gets tough, Trojans hope Sanchez gets going

California is fired up about playing for a Pacific 10 Conference title and Rose Bowl berth. USC is fired up by the prospect of playing a ranked opponent that might warrant some respect from the Bowl Championship Series computers. A look at some issues surrounding today’s game:
Click or pick: USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, the Pac-10’s leading passer, has done a lot of damage against hapless opponents, but can he find a groove against a defense that is the national co-leader in interceptions?
Speed trap: The Trojans’ fifth-rated run defense faces a Cal backfield with sprinters’ speed. USC’s flow may depend on Joe’s big toe.
Tackle box: USC’s linebackers lead the team in tackles. Cal’s aren’t as well known but are the focal point of a defense that ranks right with the Trojans in several key categories.
Lining up: Don’t expect a sack exchange. USC has given up a conference-low nine, Cal only 13.
Margin of error: USC is second in the conference in turnover margin . . . behind Cal.
