Last week came word that a musical was being developed based on the slash-fest “American Psycho.” This week brings news about a new rock musical revolving around “Deep Throat” -- and we’re not talking Watergate here.

For those too young -- or too pure -- to remember, “Deep Throat” was a 1972 film that, depending on whom you talk to, may or may not have been the most financially successful porn movie of all time. But it definitely turned its star, Linda Lovelace, into a household name.

Charlotte Caffey, an original member of the Go-Go’s, has written the book, music and lyrics for “Lovelace: A Rock Opera,” which revolves around the life and times of the ‘70s porn star, who later gained support from Gloria Steinem and other feminists when she disclosed she was a victim and performed under threat of death. Singer Anna Waronker, a founding member of the group That Dog, and Jeffrey Leonard Bowman are also part of the creative team. It stars newcomer Katrina Lenk.

The musical has been in development for a number of years and had a one-night showing at the Key Club in 2003. It will premiere at the Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles on Oct. 18.
