Ex-Milberg client fined, sentenced
From Times Wire Services
A former Milberg client, who cooperated in the investigation of illegal kickbacks the law firm paid clients to file shareholder lawsuits, was sentenced to three months in prison for lying to courts about the payments.
Howard Vogel, 64, also was ordered to pay a $4,000 fine at a hearing in federal court in Los Angeles. He already forfeited $2 million in illegal payments he received from the New York-based firm.
The government hadn’t sought prison time for Vogel as part of his 2006 plea agreement.
