Boeing Co. and its machinists union said the U.S. economic crisis had strengthened their resolve in a strike over job security and the use of outside contractors.

Boeing hasn’t been able to build jets since the 27,000 machinists walked out Sept. 6 in the company’s Seattle-area manufacturing hub as well as Oregon and Kansas. The two sides are at odds over wages, benefits and the increasing use of vendors for work the machinists had done.
