Nerf toys can cause injuries

About 330,000 units of Nerf N-Strike Recon Blasters are being recalled by Hasbro Inc. because the plunger can pull the user’s skin when the toy gun is fired. The company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have received 46 reports of injuries. The blasters were sold by Wal-Mart, Target and Toys R Us, as well as toy and discount stores around the country between November 2007 and August 2008. * About 36,000 Harry Potter bookends, imported by Giftco Inc., are being recalled because the paint on the bookends contains high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by children. The bookends, which are shaped into characters of the “Harry Potter” book series, were sold at school fundraising programs as well as discount and dollar stores nationwide from June 2004 through January 2006. * About 20,000 children’s metal water bottles are being recalled by Pottery Barn Kids because the sip top can come off and become a choking risk.
