J&J; acquires HealthMedia

Johnson & Johnson said it had bought HealthMedia Inc., a closely held provider of online health counseling, and called the deal its first step in building a preventive-care unit that could generate $20 billion.

Terms of the deal for HealthMedia, of Ann Arbor, Mich., were not disclosed. The company offers users automated advice and reminders about diet, disease and drug management, smoking cessation and other programs, J&J;, in New Brunswick, N.J., said.
