Putting jinx on the Series

I knew it was coming. You knew it was coming. We all knew it was coming.

I just saw Bill Dwyre’s Aug. 4 column that said there would be a Freeway World Series. So now it’s official: There definitely will not be a Freeway World Series.

The only thing that is certain is that if the Dodgers and Angels happen to be in first place at the same time, someone at The Times will write these ridiculous articles.

Are Angels fans surprised about the team standing pat again at the trading deadline? Of course not. But they have to be asking themselves: Do they really want to continue to support a team that says they are a big-market team but acts like a smaller market? Too many Angels fans are happy with being a competitive team and winning division titles. That’s not good enough for certain fans who want a winner not just now but in the future.

Tony Reagins and Mike Scioscia need to realize that in order to get quality players like Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay or others, you need to give up something of quality. The Angels have young, quality guys in the minors, but they don’t want to trade them -- and also don’t want to play them in the big leagues.

With the Angels’ season-long pitching staff problem and the coming and going of the trade deadline, the Red Sox once again made sure that the Angels will not get through them in the playoffs by acquiring two solid bats in Victor Martinez and ex-Angel Casey Kotchman, who will more than likely hit the walk-off home run to finish off the Angels once again. I hope they enjoy their season-ending Halladay in the Bahamas.
