NEW YORK — Daniel Murphy hit a game-ending single in the ninth inning, Luis Castillo hit a two-run home run and the New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants, 3-2, Sunday.
Closer Francisco Rodriguez (3-4) struck out the side in the ninth inning, one day after giving up Bengie Molina’s home run in the 10th inning of a 5-4 loss.
Castillo connected with two out in the fifth inning against Jonathan Sanchez for his first home run since May 30, 2008, at Shea Stadium. The home run to the second deck in left field put the Mets ahead, 2-1.
The Giants answered with a run in the eighth inning before the Mets put together the winning rally.
