CBS News correspondent Cami McCormick was seriously injured by a roadside bomb Friday in Logar province, Afghanistan, as she traveled with the U.S. Army on assignment for CBS Radio News, the network said.
New York-based McCormick was hurt when the vehicle she was riding in was hit by an improvised explosive device. She underwent surgery at a field hospital and was transported to Bagram air base, north of Kabul, for additional treatment. The network did not release details about the extent of her injuries.
McCormick, 47, has worked for CBS Radio News for 11 years, making frequent reporting trips to Afghanistan and Iraq. She has been in Afghanistan since Aug. 13 covering the recent presidential election and the ongoing violence in the region. Before joining CBS, McCormick worked at CNN, where she reported extensively on the Middle East.
