Huskies remain tied for first place

Justin Dentmon scored a career-high 30 points and freshman Isaiah Thomas had 25 as No. 23 Washington handed No. 14 Arizona State its second consecutive home defeat, 84-71, on Saturday at Tempe, Ariz.

Washington (16-5, 7-2 in the Pacific 10 Conference) led by 19 points twice in the second half before Arizona State got to within 74-68 when Derek Glasser made three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt with 1:58 left.

Thomas made two free throws on each of the next two possessions, and the Huskies made eight straight free throws over the final 1:56 to clinch a victory that kept them tied with UCLA for first place in the Pac-10.

Jeff Pendergraph had 21 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for Arizona State (16-5, 5-4), his sixth double-double of the season. James Harden, who came in as the Pac-10’s leading scorer with a 22.2 average, had 15 points for the Sun Devils.

Arizona 66, Washington State 56 -- Chase Budinger broke out of a shooting slump to score 19 points and led the Wildcats on a decisive second-half run at Tucson.

The Wildcats (14-8, 4-5), after shooting 31% in the first half, went on a 24-2 run after Washington State (4-5, 12-9) had built a seven-point lead with nearly 14 minutes left.

Budinger, who made only one of his first 12 shots from the field, had 10 points during the scoring outburst.

Taylor Rochestie led Washington State with 22 points.

Oregon State 57, Oregon 54 -- Calvin Haynes had 15 points at Corvallis to lead the Beavers past the visiting Ducks in the 330th “civil war” meeting between the schools.

Oregon State (10-10, 4-5) has four wins in the first half of the Pac-10 schedule for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Beavers were 0-18 in conference play last season.

Tajuan Porter had 22 points to lead Oregon (6-15, 0-9).
