A call for ‘truth’

Re “Senator calls for Bush-era inquiry,” Feb. 10

Sen. Patrick J. Leahy’s (D-Vt.) call for a “truth and reconciliation” inquiry into possible Bush-era misdeeds would help cleanse this nation of the feeling of collective guilt. We Americans decided not to question the Bush administration when it was smearing our good name with the prison at Guantanamo Bay, torture, secret jails and the blood of innocent Iraqis.

The collective guilt of the slavery era has been washed away because of the election of President Obama. It has improved our standing in the world. A truth and reconciliation commission to investigate the Bush administration would only do us good.
